Manufacturers producing these components use different specifications set by globally recognized institutions such as the ASTM. For instance, the Low Temperature Carbon Steel Fittings are produced using ASTM A420. The steel alloys per this specification are to be produced by any of the following processes i.e. open-hearth or basic-oxygen, or even the electric-furnace process. The open-hearth furnace process, or as referred to in short as the OHF makes use of the heat of combustion of gaseous or liquid fuels. In this process, the oxygen instates a set of intensively exothermic reactions, including the oxidation of such elemental impurities in the form of silicon, phosphorus, or manganese. One of the main benefits of using EAF or the electric-furnace process is that the production of ASTM A420 WPL6 Fittings is possible from a feedstock of 100% metal scraps. Using this process greatly decreases the energy required to produce ASTM A420 WPL6 Buttweld Pipe Fittings in comparison to fundamental steelmaking processes from ores.
